It’s quite normal for some problems to arise during the life
of your microwave oven. When it comes time to decide whether to repair
or not, our office staff and technicians will give you their honest and knowledgeable
opinion whether you should repair or buy new or even have us come to your house
for an evaluation. Whether to replace or repair will depend
on the cost of the repair versus the replacement cost to buy and install
a new unit.
Most of the time, it does make sense to repair a multi-function
microwave unit that also acts as a venting mechanism for your cook top.
In general, those microwaves tend to be more expensive to replace and install. Occasionally,
some microwaves are special-sized or built into cabinetry so that replacing them
would incur very high cabinetry expenses and so customers quite often choose to
proceed with repairs on those microwaves.
For wall microwave units, depending on the problem and the age of the microwave,
it may or may not make sense to proceed with a repair. In order to save our customers
a service charge, we usually suggest that if their microwave is over 10 years old,
they first consider the replacement cost before we make our initial visit. For customers
who have tabletop or countertop microwaves, it rarely makes sense to repair rather
than replace those units.
